Modernization of the Odra weirs on the section managed by RZGW Wrocław, Opolskie Voivodeship (stage I)
To meet the conditions of adapting the Odra in the canalised section (from the Port in Gliwice to Brzeg Dolny) to Class III waterway, a minimum river depth (1.8 m) must be guaranteed throughout the entire navigation period. In the area of the three weirs planned for reconstruction, there are problems with maintaining the required depth, which results in the necessity of incomplete use of the barges, and moreover, these weirs are very worn out, are cumbersome to operate and often lead to temporary breaks in navigation.
The scope of the investment includes construction works related to the reconstruction of three sectoral weirs (in Januszkowice, Wróblin and Zwanowice) into hydraulic-operated flap weirs, along with the reconstruction of accompanying facilities (weir control rooms and engine rooms, fish ladders, communication footbridges, distribution dams, reloading quays, reinforcements) shorelines, weirs, energy facilities and access roads). The qualitative objective is to improve the quality and accessibility of navigation on the Oder, on the sections under the influence of the Januszkowice, Wróblin and Zwanowice weirs, including increasing the water transport capacity and increasing traffic safety.
The second quality objective is to increase flood safety by streamlining and automating the systems for controlling water damming and monitoring the water level on the Odra River.Another quality objective is to improve the technical condition and work of weirs as well as to raise the standards of infrastructure used for the local community, including facilitating pedestrian and bicycle communication between the banks of the Odra River.
Modernization of the Odra weirs will contribute to stopping the regression of inland navigation and, above all, improve the parameters of the Oder Waterway.
