Integrated low-emission public transport system in Zielona Góra
Project “Integrated low-emission public transport system in Zielona Góra” is an urban transport project located in Zielona Góra, Poland. The beneficiary is the City of Zielona Góra. Zielona Gora counts around 140 thousands inhabitants and is the largest city in the Lubuskie Voivodeship. The project consists of a range of activities covering both public transport infrastructure.
The list of project components follows:
- Purchase of new low floor electric buses (12 m),
- Purchase of new low floor diesel buses (18 m),
- Electric charging infrastructure,
- Modernisation of the MZK bus depot,
- Construction of the passenger transport interchange,
- Coverage of the tracks at the PKP railway station,
- Modernisation of the viaduct under the railway tracks, in Batorego street,
- Construction and reconstruction of loops and stops together with accompanying infrastructure,
- Modernisation of the Passenger Information System in real time and MZK fleet management system.
The main objectives of the project are:
- reducing emissions,
- improving the quality of services offered to passengers,
- relieving traffic on the route of the busiest bus lines,
- reducing traffic congestion in the city of Zielona Góra,
- improvement of traffic flows,
- increasing safety and reducing the negative impacts of transport on the environment, minimise the impact of noise,
- improving accessibility to public transport, including for people with reduced mobility
- preventing the outflow of passenger from public transport.
The specific objectives of project are:
- purchasing rolling stock – electric 12-m buses and 17 articulated diesel,
- extending the availability of PIS through the provision of adequate passenger information signs at bus stops and extension of system functionality available to passengers as well as for public transport fleet management,
- establishing an adequate standard of servicing large passenger flows through the construction of passenger transport interchange, which connects the urban transport network with the PKP railway station,
- eliminating the bottleneck in Batorego street by refurbishing the viaduct under the railway tracks (too narrow carriageway with walkway implies alternating traffic with buses and walking),
- adaptation of loops to the technical requirements of the battery charging process, completing infrastructure at stops on the new bus lines,
- enhancing the security of buses manoeuvring, particularly the articulated ones, by reconstructing loops and stops.
The project is implemented in the city of Zielona Gora, Voivodeship of Lubuskie. The project objectives are consistent with PO Infrastructure and Environment, in particular with its priority axis 6 “Development of low emission public transport in cities”.
