Development of mass transport in Olsztyn - ecomobility chains
“Development of mass transport in Olsztyn – ecomobility chains” is an investment for which a project was nominated in the “Top Investments of Eastern Poland 2019” competition.
The set of investment activities was co-financed from EU funds, and the main aim of the project was to expand public transport within the city of Olsztyn and its Municipal Functional Area (MFA).
The main result of the project was to increase the attractiveness of public transport, thus increasing its use.
This succeeded partly because of integration of the connection hub at the railway and bus station, construction and expansion of the street layout in the centre of Olsztyn (ul. Pieniężnego including the św. Jakuba bridge and ul. Partyzantów) prioritising public transport (bus lanes), construction and expansion of pavements, cycle paths and lighting, as well as purchasing a fleet of trams and extending the Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
Completion of the investment contributed to the achievement of a range of specific goals, such as integration of the various forms of transport functioning in the vicinity of the railway and bus station, which also improves Olsztyn’s connection with its MFA, unblocks traffic in congested areas of the city by prioritising public transport, expanding ecomobility chains (integrating public transport, cycling and pedestrian travel), improving traffic safety, cutting municipal transport travel times, improving the accessibility of the centre of Olsztyn for public transport and cyclists, better use of an environmentally friendly public transport system adapted to the needs of the disabled.
The main users of the investment are the inhabitants of Olsztyn and the Municipal Functional Area, entrepreneurs and tourists.
