perspective
2014 - 2020

Olsztyn Municipality has put into use National Road DK51 on the section from the intersection of Towarowa with ul. Leonharda to the Wschód junction (S51) The investment in the eastern part of Olsztyn constitutes a key link between the road system on the DK51 section with the southern Olsztyn bypass on National Road DK16 (the TEN-T network).

A new section of G 2/2 class roads was created, measuring 0.39 km (2 lanes in 2 directions), 2.17 km of roads reconstructed with improved parameters, and over 3 km of bicycle infrastructure.

The subsidy concerned such elements as project documentation, land purchase, construction work, supervision of realisation of the contract and promotion of the project. The construction work schedule included construction and reconstruction of intersections, construction of service roads, cycle and footpaths, bus bays, slip roads and 2 viaducts, as well as reconstruction of conflicting infrastructure and demolition of conflicting buildings and engineering structures. Trees were felled where necessary and new greenery planted.

This undertaking realised the main aim of the Operational Programme, i.e. “to increase the competitiveness and innovation of Eastern Poland macro-region.” This means improved efficiency of the transport systems, and sustainable transportation in the regional capital and its functional areas, as well as increased accessibility for the macro-region in terms of transport infrastructure.

Among those feeling the positive effects of the investment are the inhabitants of Olsztyn, for example during their daily commute. Tourism is also benefiting, and in the longer term the investment will enjoy plenty of attention among businesses operating in the eastern part of the city – this means an opportunity to integrate with already functioning labour markets and falling unemployment.
