Didactics, Innovation, Development. Improving the quality of education through the development of innovative education.
The opening of the Center for Innovative Medical Education of the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum – Collegium Medicum of Krakow took place on May 10, 2022.
The main objective of the project is the development and implementation of the university’s development program assuming the education of medical, medical-dental, nursing and midwifery students, using various and complementary forms of medical simulation. The project will also enable the development of teachers’ competencies, the development of teaching materials, and the creation and equipping of practice rooms.
The creation of the Center required the expansion and reconstruction of the building at 7 Medical Street in Cracow. Thanks to the work carried out, high-fidelity simulation rooms were created at the Center: 2 intensive care rooms, 2 hospital emergency department rooms, an operating theater, a delivery room and an environmental room with an ambulance simulator. The high-fidelity rooms are equipped with defibrillators, ventilators, cardiac monitors and advanced simulators for patients of all ages, among others. These simulators provide the opportunity to perform examinations in real time, presenting various physiological functions, reactions to stimuli, auscultatory changes, and thus also the possibility of inducing various types of disease symptoms according to the simulation scenario laid out. In the delivery room equipped with an advanced labor simulator, students have the opportunity to hone their practical skills of labor reception technique.
In addition, low-fidelity simulation rooms have been set up at the Center: 2 BLS simulation rooms, 6 ALS simulation rooms, a clinical skills laboratory teaching room, a technical skills teaching room, a surgical skills teaching room, and 20 OSCE exam rooms (also used for practicing with standardized patients). The intermediate and low-fidelity rooms are equipped with phantoms and trainers aimed at improving technical skills.
The project will run until June 30, 2023.
