perspective
2014 - 2020

Modern medicine is based on the latest scientific and technical achievements. This means not only the treatment of diseases but also, to a large extent, their prevention. Continuous development of this field helps with preventative action and increases the effectiveness of treatment. It is extremely important for doctors to know their patients’ history, the course of their illness and to have quick access to documents and tests carried out previously. The computerization that has been recently observed in many medical institutions is very much needed. An aging society puts strain on the healthcare system, causing long queues to doctors and often their lack of availability. According to statistics, 69% of the member states of the World Health Organization have already declared implementing digital health strategies. An example of such an investment is the project of the Lower Silesian Center for Lung Diseases in Wrocław, which launched four e-services:

  • DICOM image data cloud – a system developed to provide patients with access to their imaging data (tests performed at the Centre);
  • digitization and sharing of test results from medical devices – the service enables patients’ access to their test results;
  • teleradiology – a system that enables remote diagnosis – by sending high-quality images (ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging);
  • processing voice into parts of electronic medical records – this e-service allows medical staff to create and complete medical records using automatic voice recognition and speech-to-text technology.

The digitization of healthcare is inevitable and in Poland this process is definitely accelerating. Electronic services relieve doctors and all medical staff, but most importantly – they increase the effectiveness of treatment. The circumvention of extensive bureaucracy is also very important. Introducing e-services into medicine eliminates unnecessary activities, and thus – improves the entire healthcare process. Let’s hope that thanks to the digitization of medical services over time, each of us will see an improvement in the quality of treatment conditions.
