Construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 1 MW in the village of Czerwona Woda
The resources of fossil fuels are depleting. Moreover, their extraction, processing and exploitation are harmful to people and the environment. That is why natural sources of energy (renewable energy sources) such as water, wind or sun are increasingly used. They do not degrade the environment and do not emit gases into the atmosphere. Photovoltaics is a field of science and technology that deals with converting sunlight into electricity, in other words, generating electricity from solar radiation.
Existing solar power plants are increasingly covering energy demand in factories, cities and in many households. A solar power plant is a set of devices connected with one another by an appropriate infrastructure that applies solar radiation to produce electricity or to heat up water. The first such installations were built in the 80s in California (USA), and today the largest solar power plant is in the city of Sarnia in Canada, while the leader in the use of solar energy is Germany. Our western neighbors have almost half the power of photovoltaic installations in the world.
We do not use solar power on such a scale in Poland, and this will certainly not change soon, but solar power plants are becoming more and more popular, also due to the fact that EU funds are being allocated for this purpose. For example, the company Red Light Energy Ltd. created a solar power plant in the village of Czerwona Woda (Zgorzelec poviat). The company now produces „clean” energy, which it sells to the power grid and partly uses it for its own needs. The investment contributes to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and thus to the protection of our health and the environment.
