A complex energetic modernization of the Rectorate Sanctuary of the Holy Mother, the cause of Our Joy “Snowy Mary” service building in Góra Igliczna
Góra Igliczna has been the destination of numerous trips and pilgrimages for a long time. In mid 17th century a dweller of the Wilkanów village, Krzysztof Veit, was on a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary in Mariazell (Austria), from where he brought a basswood made, folk copy of a Holy Mother figure.
The figure was placed on an oak tree, close to the mountain summit. Once, during a storm the oak tree broke but the figure survived untouched. It was perceived as an act of Divine Providence; the figure was relocated to another place and a small chapel was built there. Afterwards. i.e. in 1781, the construction of the Mary Sanctuary began. The figure quickly became famous and its fame was spreading quickly thanks to numerous cures and graces assigned to the figure. The church itself was rebuilt and extended several times, and as a result it gained a tower, rectory, cloister and terraces.
In 2008-2011, thanks to EU financing the sanctuary underwent renovation – maintenance works which also included the adjacent infrastructure and fire protection as well as installing a monitoring system. Last year, in turn, a complex energetic modernisation works were completed which reduced the amount of used energy. The building was insulated, new windows and a ventilation system were installed plus a new central heating system based on renewable sources of energy.
Every year the Sanctuary is visited by many tourists and pilgrims while its exceptional character as well as picturesque location make it a perfect choice for a wedding or christening ceremony. The summit of Igliczna is an ideal viewpoint on the Klodzko Land and the surrounding mountain ranges.
