Increasing the accessibility to the cultural resources of the Kłodzko region by recreating the historical trail within the territory of the Kłodzko Fortress and the implementation of the accompanying infrastructure – adaptation of rooms and outside areas for exhibition, educational, and cultural purposes
The Kłodzko region is the area of the former Kłodzko County. The region is formed by picturesque mountain ranges of parts of the Central and Eastern Sudetes. Numerous monuments that are worth visiting are located here. One of them is the Kłodzko Fortress towering over the city, erected in the 18th century at command of the Prussian King Frederick II. The preserved historical building with a total area of 30 hectares consists of: the main fortress, the Owcza Góra auxiliary fort, and preserved fragments of the city fortification. The fortress was recognized as a monument already in 1960, when it was also – partly – made available to tourists. The works, which aim to make more areas available to be explored by tourists, are still in progress. Recently, the EU subsidy has allowed for reconstruction of the historical trail. The works covered, i.e., indispensable demolition, revitalization of the courtyard, the Commander’s Garden and the fountain, reconstruction of the Sparrow’s Gate and stairs along the wall, adaptation of some of the Apple Tree bastion to the back of the stage, installation of historical trail lighting and monitoring. Additionally, new toilets, appropriate signs and information boards, also in Braille language, were installed. The fortress will host various cultural events, such as: music events, theatre performances, and film shows, using modern multimedia solutions (mapping), as well as educational activities.
