Adaptation of the former Evangelical church in the Zawonia commune for cultural purposes
Many of Lower Silesian monuments deserted after the war are deteriorating to this day and were not as lucky as the Evangelical church in the Zawonia commune that was built at the end of the 18th century. The former temple has served various functions for years, including as a grain warehouse or gym for children from a nearby school. Residents have been making efforts for years to restore the church to its former glory, but only now it became possible. Thanks to EU funding, a commune cultural centre was created there. New furniture, appliances and equipment were purchased and the area around the church was developed. A multifunctional and friendly space was created, which includes, i.e., an impressive concert hall that can seat over 200 people, with a stage, professional lighting, sound system and facilities. Interestingly arranged workshops were created, as well as thematic areas of activity, such as POCZYTAJKA [eng. reading area] or WOLNA CHWILA [eng. spare moment], serving as meeting and integration places. The workshops, each of them of approx. 50 m2, can be combined with each other. All we have to do is move the mobile walls and we will obtain a large space of about two hundred meters. The PO SCHODACH [eng. Up the stairs] Gallery was created in the renovated tower, where exhibitions of local artists and more take place. In the historic space, the cultural life of the Zawonia Commune is gaining momentum and colour.
