The medieval Grodno Castle as the centre of cultural and tourism activity – reconstruction of the elements of Grodno Castle in Zagórze Śląskie: the gate building, the connector building and the restoration of the fortified tower
Grodno Castle is one of the most beautifully-placed castles in Lower Silesia. The history of the Castle reaches 900 years back, beginning from the times of the Silesian Piasts, through the Czech Crown, the Holy Roman Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia, ending on the World War II period and first post-war years. Initially, it was a medieval stronghold, which in the latter times was reconstructed to a Renaissance residence. Currently, the castle is a medieval ruin, in which we can admire both the fragments of walls, as well as the once restored Princes’ Halls.
Thanks to the support of the European Union’s subsidies, the municipality authorities invested in the reconstruction of a part of the castle. The plans comprise of, among others, the reconstruction of the connector building, the gate building and the fortified tower, which currently are unused for the most part, nor are they accessible for visitors. The main hall with its background facility will be created as well, in which various cultural events will take places, such as historical enactments, painting vernissages, author meetings, exhibitions, film shows, and concerts.
The purchase of modern multimedia equipment made the presentation of the Castle much more varied and attractive for the visitors.
