Nature protection through channelling tourist traffic under revitalization of technical – tourism infrastructure of the „Wilczki Waterfall” Reserve in Międzygórze
The Wilczki Waterfall, the largest and highest waterfall on the massif of Śnieżnik ( 22 meter long) and, at the same time, the second largest waterfall in the Sudetes, formerly known as „Żeromski’s Waterfalls”, is located on the river Wilczka in the town of Międzygórze. Due to the occurrence of rich natural forms within the territory of the reserve it used to be keenly visited by tourists already in the second half of the XIX-th century.
Sadly, as time passed by the area around the waterfall became destroyed. The damages have led to, among others, a dangerous penetration of the visitors into the natural elements of the environment. The Międzylesie Forestry initiated the process of revitalization and undertook steps in order to restore the tourist infrastructure of the reserve. The project covered mainly building of tourist trails, stone stairways, viewing points, bridges, benches, protective barriers, monitoring and highlighting of the waterfall cirque and paths. Especially the last elements created a unique climate of the place.
