Polish Millenarian Garden
The Polish Millenarian Garden was established in the Arboretum in Wojsławice near Niemcza, in the branch of the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław. The inspiration for its founding was the jubilee in 2017 of the 1000th anniversary of the battle of Niemcza, one of the most important victories of Bolesław Chrobry in the then strengthening Polish state.
In the garden, Polish varieties of ornamental and horticultural plants, as well as so-called conservative collections of selected disappearing, endangered and protected plants can be found. Visitors can come across, e.g., gladiolus palustris and Sulistrowice gladiolus palustris, anthericum liliago, rosa gallica, dictamnus albus, ramson, linum austriacum, polystichum aculeatum, asplenium cuneifolium, luronium natans, drosera rotundifolia, drosera intermedia, and euphorbia epithymoides.
The establishment of a new garden has increased not only the educational and didactic space of the Arboretum, but also, more importantly, the existing biological diversity of native plant species and cultivated varieties of Polish plant breeding. In the future, the breeding will become the bank of the most genetically valuable plants. In addition, the municipality of Niemcza will benefit from that, as the Arboretum in Wojsławice is one of the most important tourist attractions of the region.
