perspective
2014 - 2020

Residents of the Wroclaw Zoo – clouded and snow leopards, have a new home. For these endangered species, a special habitat was built – the Territory of Panthers. With the acquisition of EU funds, the animals have a chance to stay in conditions similar to the wild ones. Cloudy leopards live in jungles of the Southeast Asia, and the snow leopards – in the Himalayas. The multiplicity of these wild cats in their natural environment has been decreasing drastically. This is the result of, among others, deforestation, activities of poachers, as well as the popularity of pseudomedicaments in Asian medicine, where almost every part of the body of a wildcat is a profitable commodity, from which charms and tonic potions are made. The Territory of the Panthers consists of eight parts (four habitats available for the visitors and four in the back). Cloudy Leopards have a space that captures the nature of the jungle, planted with exotic plants and bushes, where the animals can climb branches and ropes. Whereas the snow leopards inhabit the „Himalayas”, where wind throws, rocks and stones dominate – typical elements in their environment, which is on the Tibetan Highlands. In addition, the elements of culture of the region where they come from were recreated, for example, cottages typical for those districts, wards, farming tools and household items. Animal rescuing consists also of environmental education. Therefore, by the runways, there are numerous informational elements about endangered species, and zoo animals have become ambassadors of animals living at large. Visitors, apart from „taking a glimpse” at wild cats, can now actively support rescuing of animals at large by means of donations.
