Fragmentary modernization of the embankments of the Odra River, at km 270 + 400 to 281 + 600, backwater embankment of the Brzeg Dolny barrage
The existing embankment along the length from Brzeg Dolny to Uraz was completed about 60 years ago, serving as a backwater embankment protecting the adjacent areas against the impact of damming the barrage. During the process of preparing the current design documentation, the technical condition of the embankments was assessed, including measurements of the grade line of the embankment crown, geological identification of the subsoil and research of the soils constituting the structure of the current embankments. By analyzing the obtained results, it was decided not to completely dismantle the embankments and build them anew. The state of the structure of the existing shafts allows the use of the method of densifying the shaft body and making it possible to construct a cut-off barrier. The implemented project covers the renovation and reconstruction of the existing body of the Odra river backwater embankment, at an altitude of km 270 + 400 to km 281 + 600 of its course, over a length of approximately 11.2 km and concerns only the embankment located on the right bank of the river. The aim of the project is to protect the inhabitants of Wały, Stary Dwór, Uraz and Raków, as well as indirectly of Brzeg Dolny, from flooding as a result of rupture and breach of the embankments. Reconstruction and reconstruction of the Brzeg Dolny backwater embankment, in particular strengthening and expansion of the embankment body, will enable the embankment to be adapted to the currently applicable requirements for hydrotechnical structures of the second class of importance. These activities will improve the safety and living conditions of the inhabitants of the above-mentioned towns (securing residential, farm and public buildings) and will ensure security for the adjacent infrastructure. The project includes all investment tasks that will result in the creation of a fully functional and operational infrastructure. Thus, the number of people benefiting from flood protection measures will increase – from 0 people in 2016 to 1669 people in 2020.
