perspective
2014 - 2020

The Maria Grzegorzewska Special School and Educational Centre has been operating in Zgorzelec for many years. It is an important place on the educational map of the city, because this is where children and young people with special needs acquire knowledge at each stage of education. The Centre is a public institution for students with intellectual disabilities and children and young people with multiple disabilities. Younger children study at a special primary school, while older children study at a vocational school and a special vocational school, where they are prepared for work. Thanks to EU funding, the centre now has equipment for two modern therapy methods in addition to IT teaching equipment.

One of them is the so-called Snoezelen Room, also known as the World Experience Room. This is a special room where children are supported with the polysensory therapy method, i.e. through the senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and balance. In this way the child gains orientation and a sense of security. They develop and open up to new sensations and experiences. This therapy is individually tailored to the needs of the child, so that he or she can build up self-esteem and confidence, and at the same time communicate better.

The second therapeutic method is Tomatis Therapy. This method uses the stimulation of the nervous system through sound. Music and voice are crucial here as they promote active listening. And this auditory attention improves reading and attention skills. Communication skills, quality of speech, reading comprehension and memory are improved. Children are calmer and calming improves their sense of security.
