perspective
2014 - 2020

The Chrzanów poviat is entirely located in the Vistula River catchment, it is also the southern administrative border of the poviat with a length of about 28 km. The Vistula within the poviat has 22 km of flood banks. Soła and Skawa are tributaries of the Vistula that pose a great flood risk to the Chrzanów poviat. The installation of measuring stations for both the tributaries will allow to close almost “100% water balance” in the Vistula riverbed. The implemented flood monitoring system is an important element and a significant link in the Local Flood Warning System. The built network is based on an automated measuring network operating both in the flood season and outside it. The system allows continuous monitoring of the threat. Using specialized software, we can almost immediately assess the current state of water, which enables forecasts for the development of a crisis threat. This knowledge enables making operational and necessary decisions regarding rescue measures. The system provides data that allows simulating potential threats and prior preparation by responsible services – strategies and specific action plans. The flood monitoring system has been designed for ongoing analysis of water levels in rivers and forwarding the results to crisis staffs. The core of the system is the base station on which the main flood monitoring program has been installed that includes the system control functions. It works with a database and a telecommunications modem that is physically connected to the server and communicates with the mobile network. The base station operators have the capability of managing the system locally or via the Internet. The measuring stations are manned all the time at the measuring points, which is why a solar panel was used whose purpose is to supply and supplement current. The use of panels enabled avoiding periodic removal of the measuring stations to recharge the batteries.
