Conservation of world-wide unique monuments connected with the history of the Metropolitan Chapter of Kraków and making them available in an exhibition space in the form of an interactive multimedia exhibition adapted to the needs of various target groups.
Thanks to a grant received from the European Funds, conservation works included unique monuments connected with the Metropolitan Chapter of Kraków.
First of all, 17th-century wall tapestries from the Chapter House (i.e. the representative meeting room of the chapter’s canons) from the Kraków Metropolitan Cathedral Archive were subject to renovation treatments. Once the work was completed, the fabrics were again placed on the walls of the room. The interior has thus been restored to its former historical appearance.
As part of conservation work, important pieces of equipment from the Wawel Cathedral treasury were also restored, such as the coronation robe of Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki, or 16th-century objects: a chasuble founded by Bishop Piotr Gamrat, a pair of chasubles described according to tradition as a gift of Queen Anna Jagiellon. Renovation was also carried out on the Jan Długosz House at 25 Kanonicza Street, where the author of the Annals lived for the last 30 years of his life, i.e. until 1480, and which is now the seat of the Rector of the Pontifical University.
The results of the work were made available to the general public through an interactive multimedia exhibition created for this purpose. The exhibition “Treasures of the Kraków Chapter” can be seen in the Main Library of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków.
