perspective
2014 - 2020

Lemon balm, nettle, thyme and purges are only part of the aromas of dried herbs that spread around the Greenvit plant in Łomża. In the Łomża branch of the company, which was created thanks to a grant from European funds, Polish herbs are processed to produce innovative plant extracts at the final stage of the production process.

The new plant was established in a special economic zone in Łomża. It produces plant extracts with an increased degree of purity, and what is directly related to it – with a very high content of active compounds, which are not offered by other Polish producers in the industry.

Export to more than 20 markets

According to Kamil Pietruszyński, Production and Investment Director at Greenvit – the produced plant extracts are supplied to the largest manufacturers of dietary supplements and pharmaceutical companies both in Poland and abroad.

– The production technology and the production plant were created as a result of several years of our research and development work. Many years of laboratory activities have meant that our plant extracts are perceived as an innovative solution not only in Polish, but on a global scale. We manage to successfully compete with specialized companies from Western Europe. Our export market consists of over 20 countries, including such demanding customers as Germany, France, Italy, the United States, South Korea and Japan – explains Kamil Pietruszyński.

Greenvit obtains raw materials for production mainly from Polish companies specializing in the cultivation, purchase and drying of herbal raw materials.

Examination and testing

Each batch of herbs is subject to very thorough research. Detailed tests and analyses take place in the physicochemical and microbiological laboratory.

The laboratory was equipped with specialized equipment thanks to the grant received from European funds. Przemysław Godlewski – manager at the Greenvit plant in Łomża tells us about laboratory work.

– The analyses carried out in the laboratory concern work on the finished product and earlier on the raw material, which is delivered to the plant. The need to comply with the applicable procedures means that we start laboratory work by examining a sample of raw material before proper delivery to be sure of its proper quality – says Przemysław Godlewski.

Laboratory employees carry out detailed tests on the laboratory system, consisting in the determination of among others active compounds in the raw material and in the final product. Everything is done in order to obtain confidence in the quality of the raw material used, and in the end – the quality of the final product.

Just like brewing tea

Herbs that come to the plant, after examination, are placed in the device where the extraction process takes place. If we wanted to graphically compare this process to anything, it is very close to making tea.

The next stage of production is the concentration of the resulting extract. And here, under pressure in a suitable tank, part of the water evaporates. The extract is concentrated to the consistency of syrup and then subjected to further processes, and finally drying.

Conquering markets with European funds

The construction and equipment of the Greenvit plant in Łomża cost over PLN 20 million, of which the subsidy from European funds covered nearly PLN 10 million.

– Without the support of European funds, we would not be able to implement a project on this scale. The construction of a new plant is a prerequisite for Greenvit to continue its dynamic development, thus meeting the expectations of the market and our customers. Our first production plant in Zambrów has already reached the maximum production capacity, without the possibility of further expansion due to area and location limitations. It should be emphasized that the construction and start of a new production plant have significantly influenced the growth of export – Kamil Pietruszyński emphasizes in the conversation.

As part of the investment in Łomża, many new jobs were created. Greenvit is constantly conducting open recruitment and plans to develop employment in various areas. For example, employees for the production department are in demand.

Greenvit is a family company founded in 2010 in Zambrów. It consists of specialists in the field of biotechnology, production and trade of plant extracts and natural raw materials. The plant in Łomża has been operating since last year.
