Revitalization of the Market Square in Choroszcz
Surface made of granite blocks, fountain illuminated in various colors, walking paths, green areas among them, and a monument in the middle – this is how the main city square in Choroszcz looks like now. The revitalization of the Market Square in Choroszcz was possible thanks to grant from the Regional Operational Programme.
Choroszcz provides attractive tourist and cultural offer. Each year, the local community celebrates Choroszcz Days or the Dominican Fair. The latter as an annual event is one of the most important cultural and promotional events of the city and gmina.
The reconstruction of the square will promote the regional history and culture, at the same time it will refer to the old custom of Choroszcz, when the town life was focused around the market. In the center of the market stands a monument. It dates back to 1934 and commemorates the inhabitants of Choroszcz and surrounding areas who died for the independence of Poland. Around the market are located the oldest sacral buildings of the city.
The investment had a much larger scope: the communication system was also rebuilt – instead of a roundabout, a two-lane street was created. Thanks to this, the city square was enlarged. New benches, lanterns were installed, and the water supply network was reconstructed for the needs of the fountains. There was also built a rainwater drainage system and an electrical installation that is used to illuminate the market and power the devices.
