Apartment supported in Jarosław
One of the ideas realized by the Jarosław Circle of the Polish Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities is the care and activation of people with intellectual disabilities and conjugated disabilities.
The project has financed the stay in a supported apartment of 8 people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities with a recognized significant degree of disability. It consists of properly designed rooms and bathrooms. The residents use common rooms such as living room, dining room, kitchen or terrace. The facility has been equipped with an innovative system of ceiling rails, making it easier for people in wheelchairs to move to individual rooms. During the day the residents are taken to educational activities and rehabilitation. On site, 24-hour care is provided. The services are provided by 12 caretakers, 2 trainers, a psychologist, 2 physiotherapists and a caretaker of the apartment. The first charges moved here at the beginning of May 2017.
The supported apartment has a family and warm atmosphere. In contrast to classical social welfare homes, the caretakers avoid excessive care and give the residents the right to make mistakes and bear the consequences of their own decisions. They also provide the opportunity to co-decide, and often to decide about everyday matters. Residents spend a large part of their time together, thanks to which they learn new social skills faster. Here they feel safe and less lonely.
