Gdynia odNowa: Revitalization of the Zamenhof-Opat Hacki area
The main objective of the project, the subject of which was a comprehensive revitalization of the estate located in the area of Zamenhofa and Opata Hackiego Streets, is to reduce the disproportion in the quality of life of the inhabitants of the estate in relation to the inhabitants of other parts of Gdynia and the province. This will ultimately lead to increased social and economic activity and social inclusion of local population.
Within the project, four interrelated tasks were carried out:
- adaptation of the building at 33 Opata Hackiego Street for the purpose of creating a multifunctional Neighborhood Center through its comprehensive reconstruction: adaptation of warehouse and workshop rooms, adaptation to the needs of the people with disabilities, equipment, development of the surroundings;
- development of the estate area by reorganizing the communication system in order to reduce car traffic: reconstruction of Zamenhofa Street, providing direct access to residential buildings with parking spaces, creating pedestrian communication routes, including the main route between the buildings. Recreational development was also carried out including: playgrounds, an outdoor gym. Development of green areas and elements of small architecture like benches, litter bins, bicycle racks and garbage cans were introduced;
- expansion of the road system resulting from the change in traffic organization in the estate: Komierowskiego, Opata Hackiego, a part of Św. Mikołaja Streets. The task included, among others: reconstruction of the roadway, construction of parking spaces for residents, reconstruction of pavements along with adapting them to the needs of people with disabilities as well as development of the adjacent area and introduction of the elements of small architecture such as: benches, garbage bins and bicycle racks;
- reconstruction and renovation of selected elements of the common parts of 3 residential buildings owned by Housing Communities co-implementing the project in accordance with the reported demand.
The project also included a task devoted to social participation and local initiatives (flexibility instrument). Among others the task included: launching a consultation point, cooperation with residents (purchase of materials for the implementation of activities initiating and shaping civic attitudes, publication of inserts devoted to the revitalization process, construction and installation of boards informing about the revitalization process), as well as commissioning public tasks to non-governmental organizations in the field of social participation and the development and support of grassroots initiatives.
