The use and making available of local resources of the „Sudety” reservoir in Bielawa for tourist purposes
The construction of the artificial water reservoir „Sudety” in Bielawa took 4 years. It was created as a result of the demand for the supply of large amounts of water to the two largest and most well-known textile factories in Poland at that time: Bieltex and Bielbaw. Over time, the facility, which was intended only to collect industrial water, turned into a tourist attraction of the region.
Almost half a century later, the land manager – Bielawa commune – applied for an EU subsidy to provide access to valuable natural areas of the reservoir and the neighbouring Natura 2000 area of the Owl Mountains. The area became even more attractive for tourists, and the work carried out contributed to environmental protection.
Ornithological studies have shown that within the shore of Lake Bielawskie (this name was officially given to the reservoir in 2018) there are as many as 39 species of birds, and one of them is the little ringed plover, which is under strict species protection. As part of the investment, a protection zone has been indicated, protecting not only the protected species, but also all other birds.
It was important to create the best conditions for relaxation by arranging a recreation area – a beach that allows residents and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of the whole area. Paths, beach playground, benches, pier, lighting, toilets and green areas were also arranged. The project has been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities: for example, the paths have proper surface facilitating movement on wheelchairs. For the visually impaired and blind, a touch multimedia terminal has been installed – the use of sound and a convex situational plan (using Braille) makes it possible to learn the information about the natural values of the Lake Bielawskie and the layout of the recreation area.
We invite you to the Lake Bielawskie!
