Low-emission city transport system for Miechów
The main and basic goal of the project is the development of public transport, promoting urban mobility by launching public transport in Miechów and building a bicycle path.
The implementation of the project enabled the residents to move faster with the new public transport system within the city and to the railway station, located almost 3 km from the center. It also had a positive impact on the increase in the tourist and recreational offer of the municipality by building a bicycle path as an alternative possibility of traveling without the use of car transport.
The first task was to purchase a new bus fleet with accompanying infrastructure. Two low-floor electric buses, a plug-in charging station, ticket machines were purchased, and the bus route was marked. The ecological education of the inhabitants related to the launch of the city bus transport was also taken care of.
The second task was to build a nearly 9-kilometer long bicycle path. This path is of an educational nature, as it follows the trail of the former narrow-gauge railway established in 1915. There are information boards on the history of Miechów’s narrow-gauge railway and a locomotive modeled on the one that used to run at the bicycle service points along the bicycle route.
The main effect of the project is the reduction of air pollutants emitted from excessive car traffic in the city.
