Revitalization of the former Wrzos cinema theatre for the needs of the KTO Theatre
The former Wrzos Cinema building became the first institutional theatre stage in Podgórze and a home for artists associated with the KTO Theatre. It is a multifunctional space – integrated with the greenery of Bednarski Park, Zamoyskiego Street and the Krzemionki Hills.
The architectural design enriches tradition with contemporary trends. The new theatre seat is a combination of modern space, pioneering technological solutions, while preserving historical elements. One of the key assumptions of the project was to restore the façade to its original form from the 19th century, which was the building of the almshouse of the Congregation of Saint Vincent de Paul.
The base of the revitalized KTO facility is the black cuboid of the theatre hall. The structure is dominated by an opening roof with a remote control function The entire building is divided up according to the functions performed by the subsequent rooms. Apart from the main stage (seating almost 200 spectators), dressing rooms and offices, there is a space open to everyone – a cafe.
