Maintenance and development of cultural heritage of the Kąty Wrocławskie Municipality through “Revitalizing historical park in Zabrodzie – stage I” and “Revalorization of the historical park and the ruins of former water mansion in Smolec”
The attractiveness of Kąty Wrocławskie Municipality is related to its rich natural values – the picturesque valley of the Bystrzyca river spreads right here but you may also witness the historical sites drawing reference to the cultural heritage of Lower Silesia. This small commune possesses within its borders the monuments from the past centuries and several of them, due to their technical state, require renovation. Such developments may be found for instance in Zabrodzie and Smolec. During the times of former greatness only the XIX century manor developments have remained in Zabrodzie as well as the 10-hectare park with a pond while Smolec is home to the ruins of a Renaissance water manor including a park and a pond.
The European Funds assist in saving natural environment and the deteriorating historical buildings. The first step in revalorization of the monumental park in Zabrodzie, financed by the EU, covered the necessary works the target of which was to restore the historical park’s plan, nurture the greenness, build walking paths and assemble small architecture to make the stay of visitors more pleasant. In Smolec, on the other hand, construction works focused above all on securing the ruins of the major which had been in danger of collapsing and the shoreline of ponds surrounding the former water manor was strengthened.
When you take a look at the manor remains it is quite to imagine that as many as 52 rooms were located there or that it hosted candle-light dinners for several dozen guests, lessons with a governess etc. or that within the area of the building it was possible to organize sleigh rides with sleighs and hunting. This world is long gone and will never return. How do we know so much about it though? We know it from the book written by the descendant of the last owners, Angela von Wallenberg Pachaly who published her memories several years ago under the title “Little Baroness. Childhood in the Smolec castle” The manor was a rural home to a rich German family of Wallenberg Pachalych – bankers, traders and entrepreneurs who, apart from it, also owned the city palace in Wrocław located at Szajnochy Street. The family abandoned Smolec property in 1945. The then 12-years-old Angela returned to the house right before leaving just to close the shutters. For the family home not to be sad and not to realize that they were abandoning it forever…
