Digitization and access to the historic collection of glass negatives and photographs from the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century from the collections of the Seweryn Udziela Ethnographic Museum in Krakow
The process of digitizing the oldest photographic objects from the collection of the Ethnographic Museum in Krakow enables keeping priceless exhibits intact and showing unknown copies that have not been exhibited to visitors until now because of their delicate material and the risk of damage by sunlight or chemical reactions. The development of the collections and their reproduction in a dedicated digital database program and making them available online for re-use enables the presentation of collections to a wider audience and strengthens the museum’s offer. The resource selected for digitization contains the oldest, priceless photographic negative and positive objects created in unique and forgotten silver techniques, of great documentary, historical and iconographic value. The facilities have regulated legal status in the field of copyright and have not been subjected to digitization processes. The project included conservator protection of exhibits, the digitization of them and substantive development of resources and extension of the database structure with the creation of an online gallery for the presentation of online collections. As part of the project, 2423 objects were digitized, they were later developed in terms of content and made available online. As part of the project, it will be possible to use information and cultural resources in an open and free manner, with the possibility of re-use.
