perspective
2014 - 2020

The territory of the Ukrainian-Polish border is characterized by a large number of historical and cultural heritage objects, of religious nature as well. Many of them serve as places of worship for Christians of various denominations and attract pilgrims from all over Ukraine and Poland. It should be noted that beyond the well-known pilgrimage centers other places of pilgrimage tourism lack on one hand promotion and on the other – a proper tourism infrastructure to ensure a comfortable stay of visitors. Thus, the cross-border region needs not only restoration of historical and cultural heritage, but also their promotion and creation of integrated and competitive tourism products on their basis for specific target groups. Therefore the project aims to help solve these problems by creating a Cross-border pilgrimage route as an instrument of promotion common cultural and historical heritage on the Ukrainian-Polish border areas. It is directed towards the following target groups: pilgrims, local communities, including religious, local authorities and non-governmental organizations. The final beneficiaries of the project are the residents of the cross-border region, tourists and tourism industry representatives. The implementation of project will result in the improvement of 3 cultural and historical sites, organizing 6 cross-border cultural events with the participation of 600 people from the both sides of the border. Creation and promotion of Cross-border pilgrimage route will bring together local leaders; religious communities, tourism industry, local and regional media, representatives of local and regional governments from 2 border regions in order to impelment joint actions concerning preservation and promotion of the historical and cultural heritage. Undoubtedly, the implementation of such an ambitious plan is impossible without joint efforts of partners on both sides of the Ukrainian-Polish border.
