Old wastewater treatment facilities in Zhabinka pose environmental threat to the Muchaviec and Bug rivers. Valuable natural complexes such as landscape park, 3 reserves, 2 natural monuments, famous tourist destinations are all in the zone of threat. The Project is aimed at preservation of the natural heritage in the Bug river basin and enhancing the attractiveness of the region and the quality of life of the local population. 1) Establishment of sanitary infrastructure (wastewater treatment plants in Zhabinka and sewerage network in gmina Terespol), to improve ecological situation in the Bug river and its tributary the Muchaviec river and preserve the natural heritage in the cross-border region. Innovative waste water treatment technologies will be used, the beneficiaries will exchange experience and know-hows. 2) Organization of long-term international cooperation in water sector. Hydroecological Center will be established at the premises of the Beneficiary 2. Recommendations for introduction of European experience and innovation in the sphere of water management in the Republic of Belarus. This will contribute to conservation of the natural heritage. 3) Activities for preservation and popularization of the rich natural heritage of the region. The information campaign „Water is Our Wealth” – formation of the careful attitude to clean water. Meeting with schoolchildren, distribution of brochures, broadcast commercials, promotion of the campaign in social networks. Children drawing and essay contest. 4) New tourist products: innovative ecological path and eco-quest, art installations will increase the number of tourists in the region. 5) Information materials about natural attractions of the region on both sides of the border. As the result, the Project will preserve the natural heritage of the cross-border region, raise its tourist and investment attractiveness and will contribute to tackling problems described by the CBC Program.
