REconfIgurable Nanostructures For OptoelectRoniC tEchnologies (REINFORCE)
Lately we have witnessed a large number of surprising discoveries enabled by research in nanotechnology. The development of nanoscale plasmonic and luminescent materials is a conspicuous example of a breakthrough that had a major impact on the research of universities and companies. With the outlined project we want to develop new REconfIgurable Nanostructures For OptoelectRoniC tEchnologies (REINFORCE). This research will open new paths for achieving control over light. Throughout the project we will use a number of organic, inorganic and materials chemistry tools for producing nanoscale, intelligent materials that are able to change their structure and properties on demand. Crucial components are switchable liquid crystals and nanoparticles exhibiting plasmonic, luminescent or dielectric properties. Potential applications of these materials include sensing, photovoltaics, light emitting diodes, thermoelectrics and optical computing. These will be also pursued within the project.
