atMSC secreted factors in the hydrogel system as a potential treatment for chronic wounds
Clinical trials with autologous adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cell (atMSC) demonstrated improved healing in 75% chronic wounds patients. However, the therapy itself is not efficient enough and a sub-population of patients does not qualify for the treatment due to advanced age, associated diseases or reduced adipose tissue deposition. A pilot data showed that therapeutic effect of transplanted cells is mediated in part by soluble factors released by these cells, thus promoting survival, migration, and proliferation of cells participating in wound healing. Therefore, the aim of this research is to develop an efficient treatment for chronic wounds which comprises a beneficial effect of atMSC therapy with easy, low-cost and unlimited application. The proposal focuses on production and purification of cell-secreted bioactive factors, incorporation of factors into bio-compatible material, and investigation of the regenerative activity of developed wound dressing.
