Multi-system locomotives and wagons for intermodal transport
The project involves the purchase, by PKP CARGO S.A., of 5 new multi-system locomotives and 220 newly built 80’ flat wagons (Sggrss series) for intermodal transport.The rolling stock will be used for intermodal transport in international traffic. The main objective of the project is to increase the share of container transport in total freight transport. The project will also contribute to:
- shifting part of the road transport to railways, which will reduce the impact of transport on the environment;
- improving transport safety through reduction of freight transport on the roads;
- developing freight transport and increase of the regularity of rail freight connections between the most important regions in Poland and abroad;
- improving the quality of transport services provided to PKP CARGO S.A.’s customers thanks to the use of modern rolling stock for transport of intermodal cargo units;
- satisfying the increasing demand for intermodal transport among PKP CARGO S.A.’s customers;
- promoting intermodal transport in Poland;
- improving the competitive position of rail freight transport and PKP CARGO S.A. in the intermodal transport market.
