Improving the availability and quality of oncological diagnostics and oncological medical procedures by retrofitting the Białystok Oncology Center
An x-ray room with a cabin, two mammogram rooms, four ultrasound rooms, ECG room, mammotome room, information registration, waiting room, as well as hospital archives, medical personnel rooms, cloakrooms and storage rooms – form the newly opened BCO Imaging Diagnostic Department. The newly created building was equipped with innovative equipment under the Regional Operational Programme.
Previously, the rooms housed the Obstetrics and Gynecology Division of the Regional Hospital. Renovation works were carried out in the basement and on the ground floor from 2008. The building has connections with other hospital facilities. It makes easier for patients to move around the hospital complex of the Białystok Oncology Center.
– This place was created so that patients can be accurately diagnosed. We have created favorable conditions to optimally and comprehensively treat our patients. Four ultrasound rooms, a modern X-ray, two mammographs and other equipment are what we are proud of – emphasized Magdalena Borkowska, director of the Centre.
The total value of the construction works amounted to PLN 9.4 million, of which co-financing from the Podlaskie Voivodeship budget – almost PLN 9 million. At the same time, as part of the Regional Operational Programme, the Białystok Oncology Centre implemented the project including purchase of specialised equipment.
Thanks to this, the diagnostic department was equipped with a digital mammography with tomosynthesis and mammography function, stereotactic breast biopsy table with equipment, digital X-ray apparatus with digital table, stereotactic prostate biopsy system, ultrasound machine. In addition, the BCO Operating Block gained a new anesthesia apparatus.
The total value of this project is almost PLN 6 million, of which PLN 5.1 million has been co-financed from the Programme, and almost PLN 900 thousand. PLN from the voivodship budget. It is worth emphasizing that thanks to the purchase of such innovative equipment it is possible to perform procedures that have not been used in health care units in our region so far. It included spectral mammography, fusion biopsy in the diagnosis of prostate cancer or stereotactic breast biopsy.
