The project is a response to the following needs/problems: undefined tourism product of Augustow Canal (unique crossborder heritage site), short average stay of the tourists, low competitiveness and the basic (simple) nature of local tourist services, lack of a common brand, insufficient harmonization of policies and activities of borderland local authorities and stakeholders. There is no common promotion policy and cooperation between borderland partners within the range of creating common and coherent vision of the cross-border tourism development along the cross-border waterway. Those limitations hinder the appropriate and efficient use of outstanding potential for tourism development. Overall objective is to ncrease of touristic attractiveness of Augustow Canal – the historical transboundary waterway – as the cultural tourism destination. Project contributes to all Programme output indicators set for the Priority 1.1: 1 improved historical site of the Augustow Canal (promoted and disseminated culture tourism product), 5 cross-border cultural events with participation of 2000 people + 3 released publications promoting heritage site (including 1 online). Project is the result and has been designed within the Project “Development of transport infrastructure around the Augustow Canal” (PBU/0008/10). Taking advantage of achieved results, gained experience of successful collaboration between Plaska Commune and Grodno District Project Partners decided to expand their cooperation on the matter of promotion of the heritage of the Augustow Canal.Achievement of the Project outputs requires close cooperation between the Partners and is not possible without it. Same as sustainability and maintenance of results. Set during the joint preparation and organization of cultural events the cooperation links will pay off in future with a new ideas and new joint culture events along the Augustow Canal bringing on a large number of visitors.
