Polish-Ukrainian cooperation for the development of tourism and preservation of cultural heritage in the area covered by "The Picturesque East" brand
The project is a response to a diagnosed problem regarding the border areas located at the Bug River. It is primarily a low accessibility to places attractive for tourists and insufficient promotion of tourism potential, in particular based on the use of cultural and historical values. To tackle the diagnosed problems, this project, through a series of coordinated promotional activities using and developing the cross-border brand “The Picturesque East”, aims to increase the interest of tourists and local communities in the cultural and historical sites of the Programme area. The local brand “The Picturesque East” is a comprehensive and innovative tourist brand referring to the local identity existing in the Polish-Ukrainian area, cultural, historical and natural heritage, which make the brand’s area unique. During the project, partners on both sides of the border will be involved in a series of activities, i.e. a shared bicycle rally, a number of outdoor events, workshops, the designation of tourist and bicycle routes, the construction of place for a bonfire and the publication of a promotional folder with a tourist map, which, thanks to the large circulation, will have a real chance to increase the interest in the cultural and historical values of the Bug areas. The project is aimed at 955 residents of the Lublin region and the Volyn region, who will choose their region as a tourist destination, as well as at tourists on both sides of the border willing to travel to places marked by common culture and history. Due to the implementation of project activities, the number of people visiting historical and cultural sites in the project area will increase. The project will be implemented in a broad cross-border partnership, to guarantee a greater impact on local communities, including residents of the neighboring country.
