Oil heritage of Ignacy Łukasiewicz's activity
The areas of the current Podkarpackie Region are a place where oil was started to be extracted and used for purposes known to us today. In the region, lived and worked – Ignacy Łukasiewicz i.a. inventor of the kerosene lamp, known all over the world. A similar heritage can be found in areas located in the Lviv Oblast, including those in the immediate vicinity of Podkarpacie. For example Łukasiewicz also worked in Lviv, where the world’s first oil lamp burned. Both in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and in the Lviv region there are places that are the cradle of the world oil industry, and are also the cradle of all modern industrialization. As in the South of the region of Podkarpacie, on the Ukrainian side, the city of Lviv, Boryslav and its surroundings play a special role in the history of the oil industry. The visibility of the rich heritage of these places is a great way to stimulate the tourism movement of the regions mentioned and to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Poles and Ukrainians. As part of the micro-project, actions would be taken to promote knowledge about oil heritage, including creating a film guide to the objects taking into account the common heritage of industrial culture related to the achievements of Ignacy Łukasiewicz in connection with the tradition of oil extraction, as well as the development of the quest (game). Partners in the initiative would be the Podkarpackie Voivodeship (LB) and the Euroregion Carpathians – Ukraine (B1), and the activities would take place in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and Lviv Oblast. All products created as part of the project would also be used after completion of project. The project will popularize knowledge about the common oil heritage of Łukasiewicz resulting in an increase in tourism in the Podkarpackie region and the Lviv Region, and thanks to the common awareness of this heritage, cooperation in the Polish- Ukrainian border area will be strengthened.
