This unique open-air “Exploseum” offers a fascinating lesson in history and the DAG Fabrik Museum with its underground trail is a dream-come-true for enthusiasts of military art, dark secrets of the 20th century and gems of industrial architecture. The museum is located right in the middle of the Bydgoszcz Forest on the southern edge of the Bydgoszcz Industrial Park.

During the Second World War the former DAG Fabrik Bromberg was one of the largest arms companies of the Third Reich located in occupied Poland. It employed between thirty and forty thousand production workers manufacturing explosive materials (half of them were Polish, and the other half were Germans and POWs from all over Europe). After the facility was taken over by the Red Army, all of the equipment was transported to the Soviet Union, and the ransacked buildings were transferred to the Polish authorities. In the 1950s the facility was used for clandestine manufacture of chemical and explosive materials.

For years the hundreds of mysterious buildings hidden away in the forest sparked the imagination of many adventure seekers and military enthusiasts. Now they can finally visit the former factory without breaking the law. The “Exploseum” is made up of seven buildings offering a number of multimedia and interactive museums. The tour starts with an exhibition devoted to Alfred Nobel – the inventor of dynamite and smokeless powder and founder of the Nobel Prize. Other rooms are devoted to the production of nitroglycerine, the history of explosive materials and the work of slave labourers. There are also numerous exhibitions illustrating the resistance movement in the company, showing examples of conspiracy and sabotage. For more thrills follow the underground trail connecting the individual buildings of the complex.

The establishment of this unique open-air museum by the Regional Museum in Bydgoszcz was made possible thanks to subsidies from EU funds. Apart from the visitors, the result was also appreciated by the jury of the 5th contest Poland Even More Beautiful. Seven Miracles of EU Funds who nominated the project for the main award in the Revitalization category.
