Flood Protection of Slubice City
The investment is part of the Flood Protection Project in the Odra and Vistula River Basins, which is implemented with the support of international financial institutions: The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Council of Europe Development Bank. At present, the town of Slubice is protected against flooding by dikes, which have an unfavorable course in relation to the river bed, causing the narrowing of the embankment in many places. This leads to damming up of the river during floods, exposing the embankments to a loss of stability and increasing the risk of their breakage.
The project covers the towns of: Słubice, Nowy Lubusz and Drzecin located in the district of Słubice, Lubuskie Province.
The primary objective of the Project is to ensure flood safety for the housing development in the city and municipality of Slubice.
It is expected that the Project will provide flood protection for about 20,000 inhabitants for floods with 0.5% probability of occurrence.
The material scope of the Project consists of four components:
- extension of the existing Odra River dike at km 26+000 33+250,
- construction of a circular dike,
- reconstruction of the “Czarny Kanał” river at km 4+612 to 8+677,
- reconstruction of the “Racza Struga” river at km 27+158 to 29+158.
