"Construction of the Krakow Sanctuary stop on the line number 94 with the communication infrastructure"
The implementation of the project enabled the organization of the integrated interchange transport node witch gave travelers the opportunity to transfer conveniently. The interchange has become an important element of the communication system in this area and currently also serves as a stop for the Fast Agglomeration Railway. It is also used by pilgrims coming to the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki and the John Paul II Center.
The project involved the construction of two single-edge platforms, each 200 m long. Platform along their entire length have a constant width, which increases the comfort of travelers on the platform. Platform equipment includes: sheds, benches, litter bins, elements of visuals information – information boards, display cases (as elements of sheds), fencing, as well as monitoring system.
In order to increase passenger safety, the stop has been equipped with CCTV devices that will enable observation and recording of images of platform.
Access to the platforms is enabled via two footbridges, elevators, permanent stairs, escalators, and pavements.
The southern footbridge allows the passage from platforms directly to the communication system of the John Paul II Centre. The travelers have also opportunity to moving very quickly to the C.H. Zakopianka – thanks to the construction of the fixed stairs, escalators in two direction and an elevator.
The northern footbridge allows travelers to get to platforms to the John Paul II Centre, at the same time allows them to go to the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki. The descent from the footbridge to the west by a permanent staircase or elevator leads to other areas of C.H. Zakopianka.
As part of the project, a car park was also implemented in an open system (without traffic control devices) for disabled people, which is located at the exit from southern footbridge. The location of the car park offers improved access for disabled people to the Cracow Sanctuary passenger stop, as well as access to the John Paul II Centre and the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki. There are 11 parking spaces in the car park. Sidewalks are created at the car park allowing direct access from the car park to the designed footbridge and to the C.H. Zakopianka.
On the west side of the stop there is a bicycle parking lots with a total of 36 parking spaces.
As part of a project, a historic abutment of the former narrow-gauge technology railway system of Cracow Soda Plan was also secured, which was created after 1918, during the period of intensive expansion of the plant. The abutment of the railway viaduct was developed by including it in the arrangement of platforms for travelers and as a vantage point on the panorama of Cracow from the level of the Sanctuary of John Paul II.
The Cracow Sanctuary stop is part of the solutions improving the quality of life of residents by serving large streams of travelers, occurring particularly during religious ceremonies. The increase in the attractiveness of public transport should induce some travelers to give up individual cars which in turn will positively affect the traffic condition on the surrounding road system and reduce emissions to the environment from transport.
