Developing an innovative diet supplement for people with diabetes or hypercholesterolaemia, and for slimmers.
The aim of the undertaking was to develop and launch onto the market an innovative diet supplement based mainly on health-protecting beta-glucan. This unique polysaccharide, obtained from oats, has powerful anti-glycaemic effects.
Due to its limited capabilities, New Concept Polska as the recipient in the aforementioned programme commissioned work on the preparation from an external research institute.
The project was realised in response to the growing interest among consumers in healthy nutrition, and the use of diets and supplements in order to maintain a good state of health.
This ultimately led to the launch of the certified product series of the Reducan® – brand – a composition of supplements with different variants, including Reducan® LIPID capsules and the Reducan® DIABET β-glucan + Chrome powdered drink.
The target group of the product developed are people taking care to have the correct blood glucose concentration after a meal, and those who wish to reduce their body mass. The supplements also help to maintain the correct cholesterol level in the blood.
The Reducan® product series was developed by an interdisciplinary team of scientists, doctors and managers with many years of experience in commercialising the results of R&D work.
Testing was performed at the National Medicines Institute, and the effectiveness of the preparation was tested on volunteers in a medical experiment. This experiment was carried out with the consent of the appropriate Bioethics Commission of the Faculty of Human Nutrition and Consumer Science of Warsaw University of Life Sciences.
The legal basis for launching the product is the REGULATION OF THE COMMISSION (EU) no. 432/2012 of 16 May 2012.
”The diet supplements developed are generally the only preparations available on the market which conform with Regulation 432/2012. The main problem was to create a form for administering them in such a way that REDUCAN Diabet could provide 4g of beta-glucan in one dose, and 3g of beta-glucan in the case of REDUCAN Lipid. The team led by Prof Arkadiusz Szterk MD did this, and created a convenient and tasty supplement. In addition, it is no accident that beta-glucan is used in the supplements. The project also involved the development of a special method for testing the molecular mass of beta-glucans, which is specially selected for the requirements of REDUCAN Diabet and Lipids and is part of the company’s know-how. We therefore consider that our preparations are truly unique supplements, which enable effective control of the concentrations of glucose and cholesterol in the blood. Additional confirmation of the effectiveness of our preparations can be seen in the medical tests which showed that REDUCAN Diabet reduces glucose concentrations after a meal by 5 to 20%, while REDUCAN Lipid causes a reduction of 6 to 10% in the total blood cholesterol level on an empty stomach”.
